Last Thursday was the monthly South End Advocacy League social meeting and if you missed it, here are the items that came up in discussion regarding the South End District.
There has been some initial discussion with Tom Philion regarding participation of the South End during the National Folk Festival. Discussion is very preliminary but there has been a suggestion to have a stage placed in the District during the weekend festivities, possibly at the Forge’s new location. As more specifics become available, we will be sure to disseminate the information.
May will see the start of this years City Market. This Thursday will be the first, again slated to be in the Railyard parking lot. The theme is Home Brew and we hope you can come join this urban gathering.
First Friday in June will be a little more intimate in the South End District. Plans are to have Elm Street closed to vehicular traffic between Barnhardt and Lewis streets.
Also occurring in June will be the 12th Annual Summertime Brews Festival. While the main event will be to the West at the Coliseum, a local gathering of Triad breweries is slated to initiate the event along Lewis Street on Friday, June 24th. Additionally, the week preceding the event is being proclaimed as Triad Craft Beer Week. We hope to see you along Lewis Street that Friday.
Finally, some more conversation was centered around the Fun Fourth. The planners are creating a series of linked area “pods” that will each represent a theme for downtown. The South End District will be the location of the Innovation Pod. As we get closer to the event, we will be sure to update you.
Mark your calendar for the May Business meeting: Tuesday, May 24th, 8:30AM at HQ Greensboro.
